Trailer: Carrie (2013)

Carrie returns to theaters in 2013. The remake craze continues with director  Kimberly Peirce’s remake of the classic DePalma film from 1976, except they are calling it a re-imagining suggesting a return to the book as a source, not the film. Everything I am reading and hearing about this film has me stoked to see it. The creative talent involved seem to be invested in making a top-notch, thrilling film based on Stephen King’s popular novel. Seriously, I cannot wait.

Part of the excitement comes from the cast. Chloe Grace Moretz stars as Carrie White, the role made famous  by Sissie Spacek (and made her famous as well). Chloe continues to prove herself a talented actress and this seems to be a role well-suited for her. Julianne Moore plays Margaret White, Carrie’s crazed mother. She too has the chops to makes the character and the film memorable.

Sure, this isn’t the first time Carrie has been re-envisioned (it was made as a TV movie a while back), but this is shaping up to be one of the bigger event horror films of 2013. A recent jaunt to the New York Comic Con provided some insight into how the director and the cast were approaching the material leaving me with high hopes for this particular remake.

Check out the teaser trailer for Carrie below and let us know what you think.

Wait a minute? You were at NYCC and didn’t mention it on the Site? I’m a native New Yorker and wouldn’t have minded a face to face over lunch. Perhaps at next year’s Comic Con if not sooner.

As for the Carrie remake, and all I can think is that line: “They’re all going to laugh at you.”

So the trailer to show you how much more grander this film will be over the original give you other than just an image of the school gym burning down but the entire town engulfed in flames. At this rate I can imagine the next remake of Carrier 20 years from now depicting Carrie silhouetted in front of a nuclear explosion. Bigger does not always make better. Consider me still not hopeful for this remake for now.

    • Ah! No, I was not the one that made the jaunt to NYCC – I meant to refer to the the director and cast making an appearance at the con. I was simply reporting on the new shared from the con by sites across the internets and the youtube videos from the con. BUT, if I ever do make it to the area, a meet up is a must.

We’ve debated the Carrie remake a number of times in the past few months. A full trailer is needed to get the best feel from the film. So, to be continued, eh?
